Chief Executive Officer: (CEO) 

Qualities

Respected by peers, driven, competitive, organized, comfortable speaking in front of a group, confident, likes to lead and is passionate about the company, and takes their job seriously.

 

CEO ultimately sets the direction of the company. The CEO decides where the company goes, forms partnerships, and helps them steer the company accordingly. The CEO’s second duty is building culture. Work gets done by people, and people are profoundly affected by culture. In Virtual Enterprise the CEO takes on a unique position because the CEO will be leading his or her peers. The CEO must be confident in their abilities to guide the team while being a good listener and very cognizant of others’ opinions and ideas. A good leader is able to delegate work without becoming “bossy”. As stated above the CEO must set the culture of the company. Depending on the style of leadership, the company will be run in different ways, for bad or for good. The CEO is responsible for being the face of the company at all Virtual Enterprise events. This entails meeting with business partners, leading presentations for other organizations, and representing the company at all major events. It should be understood that this position will require extra time beyond the “work day” to meet company deadlines.

Responsibilities 

  • Select qualified leadership staff, collaborate with COO and business plan team on the business plan

  • Make sure the departments know what needs to be done in what time frame (Weekly meetings are essential)

  • Monitor departments with the COO to keep help Vice presidents keep departments on task.

  • Meet with your coordinator regularly to discuss what needs to be happening in class and what you can be doing better as the leader of the class

  • Resolve conflicts by talking face to face with employees and informing them of the consequences (lowers their grades, jeopardizes participation on trips, etc.)

  • You are the face of the company. Be ready to help departments when they have questions, and don’t expect to be the first one out the door; make sure you positively represent the business by working hard on all tasks, welcoming and thanking business partners, and behaving well outside of class because you are what sets the tone for the company and your team.

Typical Tasks

  • Lead weekly leadership meetings and help establish goals.

  • Address company each week to guide company work 

  • Create a vision for the company to follow and work under.

  • Assist and supervise employees in marketing, sales, art, and digital media departments

  • Constantly listen, monitor, and assess the culture and progress of the company

Things to Know: 

You will be leading a class of people the same age as you, this is a difficult concept and will take time to figure out how to lead successfully. The whole class must understand the big picture in order to keep the class on the same page. If no one is motivated to go to an event, the CEO is in charge of leading by example and motivating the company. You are the face of the company; the way you act will be followed by the whole class. Make sure you lead the way you want others to follow.
